Daniel preaches in English at an International School

Bro Steve:
I went to the International school
which is about 30 kilometers from my house. I was picked up, and we went by way of the toll road. It is a well known International school called Sekolah Pelita Harapan. There are students from abroad, mostly Korea, Japan, South East Asia (Philipines etc.) including teachers from Australia, the USA, Japan, Africa, and Korea. They use English in communicating. I preached in English also. I was asked to explain the book of Joshua chapter 24 and Judges chapter 1. The point of the lesson was that if they didn't worship the true God, they would end up worshiping the false gods.

I went there with Susanto so he could take some pictures. We left my home at 12 noon and returned home after 3:30 PM. I then went to the ruko to teach English. Hopefully they will ask me again to teach them one day since they use many preachers from many denominations. Maybe they are still trying to find good teachers to give healthy spiritual food for the children.

The person who invited me sent me a short message after I returned from the ruko saying thank you for the sermon I preached.

Building up the street children through family rapprochement

JAKARTA (Pos Kota) – Family rapprochement is the most effective way to develop street children.  This is the method chosen by the Social Department to overcome the street children problem which has mushroomed in the country.

“Street children usually come from disharmonious family relationships and families lacking in resources.  Therefore the Social Department will make an effort to develop the street children through family rapprochement,” said the official of the board of neglected children at the Social Department, Mr. Rachmat Koesnadi, MS, Monday (5/25).

Using rapprochement we will know why the children live in the streets. “Is it because of the economy, or the children themselves?” said Rachmat.

According to the data, today there are 3,488,309 neglected children, 1,178,824 neglected street children below the age of 5, 10,322,674 emotionally disturbed neglected children and 367,520 physically defective street children. (tri/o)

Report From Tulo'asa Ndruru

Dear Steve and Daniel in Christ,

I have just returned from Batam  this past Saturday where I taught the books of Galatians and Philippians for two weeks.  Yesterday I served communion at the Suka Baru congregation. There were 37 people in attendance with 4 guests. I also preached at the Pokok Mangga congregation using a text from Philippians 4:2-7. Three were 18 in attendance.

Beginning this week I will return to my usual work schedule. I intend to go to Berastagi on Friday and stay until Sunday to hold a class or seminar and do evangelism there at the home of Ama Nurani Laiya.

In Christ,

Tuloasa Ndruru

Questions the students ask

Bro. Steve:

These are some of the Bible questions the students have:

Most of the Bible students ask about the many kinds of baptism and I teach them about the need for salvation because of sin (Rom 3:23) and the reasons we become Christians (1 Cor 15).

Others ask about the anointing of oil in worship. I tell them that we don't see in the New Testament scripture anything about using oil in the worship. When they use Mark 6:12 to defend their opinion, I tell them that Jesus gave the apostles authority that was not given to us and that even that oil was not used in worship and I give them 1 Cor 14:26-40 to show how worship is to be done orderly. I also site Acts 19:11 to show that some people did not use oil in healing (2 Tim 4:20) that even Paul couldn't heal Trophimus and (James 5:14) those who are ill should send for the elders of the church who will pray for them but that this praying and oil-anointing was not done as part of the worship service but at home.

These are some of the questions the students are asking now.

Dennis arrives on Nias

I haven't gotten to Nias yet.  I got to Medan at 9:00 yesterday morning.  Jessie had come to help in the purchase of a van. We got a 2007 9 passenger van, very much like they use as smaller out station buses in Nias so repairs, etc. will be as easy as possible. The plan was for Jessie to drive back, leaving today, but since it is going to a Yayasan (foundation), not an individual, it will be about 3 weeks before the title, etc. is out.   It does not have AC and the tires are bad so we are having new AC put in and when Jessie comes back in 3 weeks to get it, he'll put on a set of tires.  Our maximum budget was $9000.   With the new AC and tires and including Jessie's two trips we'll have it in Nias for right at $8000.  Unfortunately we won't have use of it while I'm here this trip but we've never had one before anyhow so that is fine.  I leave at 12:40 for Nias so just hanging around the hotel after eating my last good western meal for a while. Okay, I'm on Nias now. I'm so impressed with the director of the children's home and the facilities and space for future growth.  The jet lag is catching up with me so I'll have more later.

Resume

Education

2005-2007              Study English in WEI (World English Institute), in Bekasi.

1998-2005              Bachelor degree in economics from Djuanda University in Bogor.

1995-1998              Harapan Bangsa High school in Bogor.

!992-1995        Citra Pusaka junior high school in Jakarta.

I am the fourth number in my family. I have 9 sisters and 2 brothers. I come from a Muslim family and all my family members are Muslims, and I have no Christian friend before. Since I was a child I have tried to become a great Muslim and live in the truth. When I was 3 years old I always went to the mosque with my father and ask him how to become a great Muslim. I did the best I could to become one. But when I was 12 years old I made a decision to leave my faith and live in the truth according to my heart and my own comprehension about the truth.

When I was 15 years old I felt God call me to became a Christian. At that time I was very attracted by Christianity although I have no knowledge about it and have no Christian friend. I also bought a cross necklace and always wore it. Until on a certain day I prayed to God in order that in the future I could be a Christian.

When I was 19 years old the calling of God became more and more obvious to me. I often dreamed about the church and worship in the church. The dreams are beautiful for me. At that time I began frequently to watch Christian TV programs every Sunday.

When I was 21 years old I began to go to the church, I found my church by looking in the telephone book. I found two churches that were close to my home. There was a protestant church and Catholic church. But I more often went to the protestant church than Catholic church. Several months after I started to go to the church I made a decision to give my self to be baptized. But at that time there was no church which wanted to do it except the Bethel church, because at that time there were so many problems between Islam and Christianity. Until my baptism, I worshiped in the Bethel Church for 3 months and then I went back to worship in the protestant and catholic church until 2005.

In 2005 I moved home from Bogor to Bekasi; furthermore, I began to study English with WEI with Mr. Steve and Mr. Daniel. Under their guidance and counseling my ability to speak English and understand the Bible have increasing very fast. I had studied English since junior high school until I graduated from university but my English is nothing. I can speak English today because of WEI. My sister also said that WEI is the best. The method of the Bible teaching is also useful for a beginner like me because we learn from the basics and also about the history so we can understand the Bible correctly. Before I learned in WEI, I had trouble in making Bible exegesis. My exegesis was often different from my priest's until on a certain day I gave my Bible to someone who needed it because I thought I didn’t need it anymore. I thought it would be good for me if I stop reading it and listen to my priest's exegesis. But now I’m very confident to read the bible and make exegesis according to the instructions of WEI.

Right now I worship with the church of Christ community in Bekasi. I also have a chance to help serve the church of Christ in Bekasi. I’m very happy to have this opportunity.  It makes me want to do better in Christ. I will do the best I can and be responsible for what I do.

Thanks very much to the church of Christ community in USA because you always help and give aid to the church of Christ community in Indonesia, especially my community in Bekasi. Because of your help, now we have a beautiful church building. So we can worship with good feeling. We can raise our voices when we sing and we can worship in safety.

Thank you Mr. Steve……...

Thanks to all of you who always pray and give us aid……..

Thank the Lord and thanks to all of you for all the support that continues to grow and encourage us in serving Him. We now have more than 1,750 students following the WBS correspondence courses since December of 2002. More than 120 WEI students have joined our school since we started in September of 2006. These students attend the classes, learning English and Bible and we are always adding more students every week. We now have 10 students who just want to study the Bible in Indonesian. We just started these classes two months ago and we are adding students every week. All of these students are registered through our announcement in the World Radio program, and personal invitations. Through your prayers, may God strengthen our ability to developed the growth of the church in Indonesia.
