Wednesday, June 17, 2009, Stuart Jones, an elder from the Sunset Church of Christ in Lubbock,TX, and also an instructor in the Sunset International Bible Institute, his wife, Cecilia, and Mark Collins, a preacher and teacher from Utah, arrived in Jakarta to visit and help us in our English/Bible classes. From Jakarta they will go to Singapore to teach in Sunset’s International Bible Institute branch there. They will be in Jakarta until June 30th.
Thursday, Stuart and his wife Cecilia came to our ruko (shophouse) and met my 3 students while Martin and Mark Collins went to Santo’s house to have class. Friday and Saturday we had seminars at the ruko and all our students were invited to attend. Our main topics were about worship and about true worshipers.
Stuart Jones was the first speaker, and Mark the second speaker on Friday. Martin Johnson translated for both of them. Mark was the first speaker and Stuart the second on Saturday and Alip was the translator.
We had 17 students registered each day. Some of our members also attended. Total attendance was 29 on Friday and 30 on Saturday. The seminar started at 3 pm and finished at 7 pm. The students were given an opportunity to ask questions after the lectures. Their questions were answer by the speakers.
On Sunday the Darmawangsa congregation (Alip’s group) joined us in worship at the ruko. Stuart Jones preached for us and encouraged us how to become right with God.
Monday and Tuesday Cecilia taught the ladies. The men were separated and taught in Marty’s class together with Stuart and Mark.
We also took a few hours off to visit an active volcano in west Java about 30 kilometers from Bandung. I drove our three guests together with Martin and his family. There were 8 of us in one small van and it took about 4 hours driving each way.
Today I have 5 students (2 men and 3 women) learning grammar with me while Cecilia taught Bible to 4 other ladies.
Thank you for all of you, those of you who provide funds and a place for us teach which makes it easy for us to have activities of this kind with low cost. We always remember all of you in our prayers.
Daniel
