The poor....

I don't usually use this translation, but several of these lines aptly describe the life of the Garbage People of Jakarta.

"The poor are pushed off the path;
the needy must hide together for safety.
Like wild donkeys in the wilderness,
the poor must spend all their time looking for food,
searching even in the desert for food for their children." (Job 2:4-5)

Squaters forced to move

Garbage town is cleared out and the people move nearer the river still squatting on borrowed land. Statistics on line state that better than 60% of Indonesians live on less than US$2 a day. It may not be the poorest country in the world, but the children we are feeding are among the poorest of the poor in Jakarta. $15 will feed a chld one meal a day for 30 days. Your help is appreciated and every penny will actually provide food for the children. None of the KOI funds are used for anything other than food for the children. All administrative costs are provided for out of a separate fund. We are currently feeding 20 children. We could easily add more. Thank you for your help.

The poor are reminded that they do not own the land.

The Squaters are forced to move. This happens from time to time to protect the rights of the property owner. In this case the garbage people just moved a few meters away and closer to the river. Their shacks come down easily and can go up easily as well, but they will have less land now and that means even smaller shacks for the family. We are feeding 14 children that come from families in this squater village. 6 children from another area are also being fed daily. $15 can feed a child one meal a day for a month. $300 can feed 20. Thanks for your help.

Daniel performs marriage ceremony

Two of our students get married. They came to us from the radio program, then studied for several months using the WEI materials. They have both been baptized and now married by Daniel. Daniel's wife and daughter are also in the photo. Jessica asked me to baptize her back in 2002 and has now graduated from university.
